core skills

Numeracy
Mean - is a measure of average that you are likely to have met before. To calculate it, add up all data values and dividing this total by the number of data values in the sample.

Median - is the value of the mid - point of the data. to determine the median, count in from the both ends of an ordered data set at once.
  • if you have only one data value left them this is the median
  • if you have two data values left then you need to determine the mid - point between them. Add them together and devide by 2.
Mode - is the data value that occurs most often in the sample.
Range - is the highest data value minus the lowest data value.

This is a screen shot from the blues brothers film.   In mall chase scene we have synchronous sounds (sound match to what we see on screen). Music is empathetic and support the action that we can see.

This is a screen shot from film called "lord of war". In this particular scene music is synchronous. It is also anempathetic, because there is a happy tune but the people are happy with bad reason.

Today we work with Sounds Active ESE. We learn about different aspect of sound such as frequency (speed of vibrations), harmonics and phase. We also know that frequency response is the way how a piece of sound equipment behaves across the range of frequencies.

Second part was about places appropriate to record a sound.
After that we started to record sounds.

What does web page need?
 The homepage.

The home page is the first page our site visitors will see so it is important to spend some time on creation it. We need to remember that it should  look good and be also easy to cooperate with. The page will also need some form of navigation to other areas of the site. Content should be logically ordered (both within the site and the page itself) so that it can be easily found. Headings, unique elements, footers and usability are very important and they promote our website.

Navigation - my site should contains links to the pages/sections "Store", "About", "Contact", "The Music", "Tour Dates" and "Band News", as well as a link back to the Home page.

Once you’ve created it watch people as they use it:
  • can they find pages they are looking for?
  • does the search give them the right results for the search terms used?
  • do images/audio/video work in their browser?
  • do they get annoyed at anything?
  • are they pleased by anything?

I think we will have lots of fun on creation bands web sites!

Today we were working with mp3 recorder - Roland. We were asking people about their knowledge considering helix, and recording their answers. Then, we've put what we've recorded onto the computer.
We need to remember that when we do an interview we need to start with an intro which informs who we are, who are we talking to and what are we going to talk about.
At the end of the day, we were watching a film about the sound used in games.

Synchronous Sound - sound that matches to what we see. For example, if we see someone is playing the guitar we can hear the guitar's sound.

Asynchronous Sound - the opposite to synchronous sound. We can hear the sound but we can't see its source. For example, we can hear someone's scream but we can't see the person who screamed.

Empathetic Sound - it is the sound which mood matches to the mood of the scene we see. For example, happy song during an optimistic scene.

Anempathetic Sound - the opposite of empathetic sound. For example, if a character dies and the radio continue to play a happy tune.

Room  Tone/ Wild Track - the sound matches to the video but was recorded separately (background).

Foley - live recording of sound effects. For example, the sound of a shaked pack of crisps sounds like a fairy's wings.

Lyrical Content - lyrics of the song matches to the scene.

Tempo - the speed of a given musical piece.

3. <body style="background=color:yellow"> changes the background's color.
To see the page's source we need to click 'view' on the menu and then 'page source'.
Here are some of the HTML commands:

At the end of the day, we've watched a film about Pixar and talked about how they work.

Thursday 25.08.11
At Art & Design with Jane Paterson we've got told to search the internet for some information about Helix (leaflet creating program). Safe to say I've had lots of fun during Basic Of Painting :). Big thanks to Rob McDermott for a very interesting Introduction To Creative Industries lesson where I've learned what the Creative Industries do.

Friday 26.08.11
Today's class in the Music Studio with John McCall was absolutely amazing - he taught us how to create music and podcast.

Monday 29.08.11
Started Core Skills today! Got told about appropriate format of a piece of writing and had a test. Finally, we've created our blog accounts and added a photo.

Thursday 01.09.11
At art and design we were looking for intresting shapes and then, using carbon paper, copying them making mirror images. Afterwards, we have painted those amazing drawings. Media analysis was fun - we were watching  "Hot off the press" and "Drop the dead donkey".

Friday 02.09.11
I have finally finished my podcast (using iphoto and garage band) today.

Thursday 08.09.11
Jane showed us how to copy images using red and blue print ink. Then, I went to the library in order to find pictures, which I am going to use to create mood board. At the end of the day, we have made posters.

Friday  09.09.11
Today I have had an opportunity to work more with garage band. Playing keyboard turned out to be more fun than I thought it would be.
